October 2012!

The sailing season sure ended with a whimper. It was blowing 15 to 18knt when we went out for the last three races of the season. The wind has a nice bite to it when the temperature is six or seven degrees. In any case, just before the start, we heard an ominous metallic pop. We saw nothing and started the first race. Unfortunately, after fast upwind and downwind legs, the mainsheet block popped out of the Barney post at the second rounding. Ouch! That was the end of our 2012 season. Considering the boat is thirty years old, it looks like this winter’s project will be to replace the big pieces that are most likely from 1982 with some new material.

In case some readers think I spend all of my time fiddling with Pocher cars and Amati ships, here’s a cool shot of my Star class sailboat taken on Lake of Two Mountains this past weekend. If you are ever in Montreal and want to have a turn on this beast, please let me know. The boat sits at Club Nautique Deux-Montagnes in Vaudreuil-Sur-Le-Lac, Quebec. I like to race the boat and am always looking for competitors who might want to join the class. And, yes the numbers do look funny.
