Description

The H.M.S. Fly was the fifth vessel of the Swan Class sloop built between 1766 and 1780. With a length of 30 meters and a weight of 300 tons, the ship was imposing at sea, while its crew of 125 men and officers navigated into the unknown. 

Commissioned by the Admiralty in 1775 and launched in 1776 at the Sheerness dockyard, the H.M.S. Fly became a legend of the seas, employed for escort and communication services that took it across the oceans in search of adventures and glory.

The exploits of the H.M.S. Fly have been recounted in numerous maritime tales, fueling the legend of the ship and its courageous crew. 

During its years of service, the ship captured a French privateer, Le Gleneur, at Portland after an exciting chase through the choppy waters of the English Channel. 

Its fame grew further in 1800 when it captured another privateer, Trompeur, at La Hague, adding another heroic achievement to its glorious record.

However, like all great ships, the H.M.S. Fly also met its end. After years of valiant service, the ship came to the end of its career and was eventually retired from active service.

Its glorious deeds and its name remained alive in the stories of sailors and maritime history books, but the ship itself disappeared from the oceans, leaving behind a legacy of courage and adventure that would continue to inspire generations to come.
