Description
The Drakkar, or “dragon ship,” was the symbol of Viking audacity. Named by King Olaf Tryggvason “Ormen Lange” (Long Serpent), this impressive warship adorned with a dragon head figurehead could reach considerable sizes, up to 48 meters in length.
Its structure, protected by high sides and characterized by overlapping planks, ensured lightness and extreme maneuverability, allowing it to navigate difficult waters thanks to the bow at both ends.
Today, the Drakkar continues to be a symbol of the courage and determination of the Vikings. Their exploits influenced the culture and history of many nations, leaving an indelible mark on the world.
The Drakkar remains an icon of the Viking era, a reminder of the glorious past of a bold and adventurous people who sailed into the unknown with hearts full of courage and ambition.
